Chiropractors are also popularly called crackers. Yet there are still many uncertainties regarding chiropractic. In fact, the word cracking has a negative connotation. But does cracking really have a negative impact on the body?
The answer to that question is: no!
Cracking is not dangerous when performed by a professional. In this article, we explain exactly what cracking is and why it is not dangerous.
What exactly is cracking?
A chiropractor lifts communication disorders in the nervous system. This lifting is done by performing a pressure movement or manipulation on the spine, because this is where a lot of nerves run. This promotes posture of and movement in the spine. That pressure movement causes an audible sound, which can be compared to a snap. In some situations, this may sound intense, but this can’t hurt.
The manipulation causes sound as gas bubbles escape from the joints. Performing the manipulation opens the joint slightly. This causes the gas bubbles in the joint to move which causes the snapping sound.
What effect does cracking have?
Complaints around the spine often involve blockages in nerves. The manipulation then causes the structures around the manipulated joints to stretch. This reduces nerve blockages, giving the body a chance to repair itself.
Chiropractic focuses not only on the symptoms, but also on the entire body. Chiropractic care addresses the complaint and not just suppresses it. By removing nerve blocks, connections in the body are restored and signals to and from the brain can be better transmitted.
Is cracking dangerous?
The bones are not actually cracked. A misconception is often that people think bones rub over each other, but that is not the case. The sound is caused by released gas bubbles. Cracking is therefore harmless. In general, cracking also has no side effects. Still, you may experience muscle pain and/or stiffness after a consultation.
This is because the body needs to recover from the corrections and the body needs to find a new normal. After a few days, these side effects will disappear in most cases.
With what kind of complaints can a chiropractor help me?
A chiropractor can help with complaints around the musculoskeletal system. This system allows you to move forward. Complaints to the back and neck can be addressed, as can muscle and joint complaints. A chiropractor helps you maintain good health. You can also visit a chiropractor preventively if you have no symptoms. In fact, a visit can only be positive, and with it, future complaints can be prevented.
